A few other notes: The house is newly furnished, reflecting both Tabitha's cosmopolitan background and Eleanor's tastes in fabric. The front door is flanked by two stone figures, one of a peacock and one of a fox. Both animals also feature in the decor of the rest of the house. The breakfast is set up in a large room with windows along one wall that look out over the garden (which, it being April, is not particularly in fine fettle yet, but there are some trees beginning to show buds and baby leaves). On the tables are vases filled with budding branches and pussywillows, it being too early for flowers. Their Graces are accompanied by Tabitha's son Gavroche, who will undoubtedly spend most of his time playing with Abe's son Alexander. A teenage girl whom Eleanor introduces as Jenny Gardner, who had been serving as a companion to her, is also present. The breakfast consists of a wide variety of breads and pastries, fresh eggs in butter, an array of meats both hot and cold, and a decorated cake. Coffee, tea, drinking chocolate, and a variety of light wines and champagne suitable to the time of day are available to drink. As people finish eating, Eleanor will gladly offer tours of the home to those who want them.

Eleanor wears a dress much like this, but in azure blue, with white flowers and pearl trims and jewelry. She arrives with her fiancee, Lady Tabitha de Beauchamp. Eleanor seems less frail than she did at Twelfth Night, though she is still thinner than she was, and keeps a warm wrap with her at all times. At dinner she eats modestly, seeming to particularly enjoy the soup and fruit, offering compliments to the chef on the former. After dinner, she joins Caroline for the stroll among the artwork. She is especially intrigued by the beading, and asks many questions about it. As the family welcomes the gathered guests for final refreshments and music, Eleanor is willing to dance the less vigorous dances, of course properly saving one for her fiancee, and otherwise engaging in conversation with any who wish. She seems eager for news and gossip, having been forcibly out of Society for some months. She will have accepted the offer of a place to stay for the night, and will retire to whatever quarters are provided after offering sincere thanks to the hosts.

Eleanor would certainly enjoy having a new friend!

January 13, 1812 A carriage pulls up to the front of Buxton's Clothiers. A teenage girl exits one side and comes around to the other to open the door. She helps a warmly cloaked Eleanor down from the carriage. It is difficult to tell with the cloak, but Eleanor appears thin, and moves more slowly than the young proprietress is generally known for. As she enters the shop, cries of happy surprise can be heard from within.

23 and 24 August 1811, Brook Street (backdated) Over recent weeks, Eleanor and Lady Tabitha de Beauchamp have been seen together in public several times (always properly chaperoned): at a tea shop, at the Glorious Twelfth, and enjoying the sights of the Triangle Festival. On the afternoon of the 23rd, Lady Tabitha arrives at Eleanor's home in Brook Street, seeming in some haste. Eleanor lets her in, and it is a couple of hours before she departs again. A teenage girl is seen delivering a letter to the post. The next morning, a carriage arrives at the door, and several trunks and bags are loaded into it. Eleanor, accompanied by the same teenage girl, enters the carriage, which drives to Tintagel Garden. Eleanor and the girl are welcomed there, and the trunks and bags are unloaded and taken inside.

Apologies to everyone I owe letters to, and didn’t follow up with on the Hunt. Life got kind of crazy for a few weeks. Hoping to catch up on letters soon!

Eleanor’s mother might have known Sophia’s mother if she was in the textile trade (Eleanor’s mother Dorothea founded Buxton’s Clothiers in around 1804). Eleanor is a few years younger (18), but well within range for a new friendship?

Ooh, that sounds like fun. Buxton’s would be happy to design opera dresses. Eleanor doesn’t know much about opera but will gladly attend such an event!

I think Eleanor would be supportive of Lucinda’s claim to her late spouses’ estate. Whether they’d know each other in any significant way or not is another question. I’m certainly up for some kind of connection if you are!
