Through the mail system, both in the 1810's and now, it is possible to send more than just a letter. Decorations, recipes, art, embroidery, cookies, books, and small gifts- all can be exchanged to enhance your epistolary LARP experience.
Lady Theodora Monroe will be sending contacts some miniature watercolors like these as part of her correspondence.
Here are some tips to get started:
- If you are sending something that doesn't fit in a standard letter, include extra postage for the GMs to forward it on!
- Choose gifts that are impactful, but not expensive. Expensive irl gifts can serve as undue pressure on other players- keep it under $5 and don't expect anything in return.
I've also sent a piece of origami as a token. Nice and light and folds flat lol
I've been sending watercolours and ink drawings and it has really enhanced my own experience to do them, not just to receive. I've been thinking of opening up an art salon - does this interest anyone?
Would love to do non romantic token trades with people. I make paper bouquet phys rep and would love to trade for other art and tokens. I love making my art but sometimes it's nice to get something back. Tavvi sends beautiful flowers <3
Thought: A lock of hair was a common romantic token. We wouldnt actually want to send any real hair but a braided bit of embroidery thread could make a good facsimile.
I'll be including little paintings and pressed flowers, I'm sure. But otherwise I'll be letting the relationship dictate what I send!
I've definitely thought of small cross stitch or embroidery pieces as well as tiny watercolors as tokens to send along. Small pages with bits of poetry or prose with decorated or illuminated edges also crossed my mind as a possibility!
Tavvi is likely to send pressed flowers from her garden.
I have a large amount of Aida cloth and just enough attention span to embroider bookmarks and other small keepsakes. I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one thinking of sending little charms!
Sophrona will be sending recipes she's created with the help of her cook (including period recipes from Hannah Glasse's book!) and possibly packets of exotic spices.
(and possibly some abstract watercolors because I have no artistic skills) :D
In real life I think Vi would send fabric, so you're all probably getting fashion illustrations of things she thinks would suit you (it is possible they might be slightly more forward than you might wish...).
Also I realized this picture served as a great example that the only things I am used to drawing are people, horses, and plants in that order haha~
Charlotte has some lovely pieces of sea glass that she's collected that she's excited to gift out! :)
Thanks for sharing this!
Myself as well
Tea! That’s definitely something I can manage!
I was thinking of this as well!
I wanna do this toooo
I am so thrilled you brought this up! This was my intention as well, and I am very excited to see others letters. Here is a youtube video I adore that can give ideas! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd-M9U00Ais
