Hi Everybody! Since the game will be set during a quaratine, maybe we can brainstorm ideas on how characters may try to socialize by mail, when they can't attend the usual balls and plays.
One thought I had was a mail-in academic salon, with the host/hostess encouraging others to write to themselves or others regarding a particular topic of the month and exchanging opinions.
Quarantine began on March 1st of 1811. I'll update the timeline on the World page to reflect this. Thank you for pointing out that I missed that important date!
@Athena Peters Ok this is a BIG important question about timelines and current events. What was the date that Parliment declared a Regency version of Quarantine Lockdown in London? The Society Gazette tells us that all of Parliment met on Tuesday Feb 12, 1811 in the House of Lords. The Gazette is the March 1811 edition. At least in modern times, monthly newsletters are sent near the first of each month. Does this therefore mean that London has only been under quarantine from Feb 12, 1811 to March 1811?
@Athena Peters , what are we calling this pandemic? A plague? A miasma? Is it global?
Question for @Athena Peters: Are masks a thing for this miasma? Are people sewing masks or repurposing their scarfs and cravats? Does this mean people can travel down the street for secret meetings and have their face not recognized.....
For the performers and theaters, @(Rachel) Hazel Wynnewood @Miss Elisa Thomas (Kate) . I think it would be valuable to chat about what theaters and performers are doing during quarantine to keep actors in practice and make money since shows cannot be performed. Alice has personally gone back to working at the old flower shop she was an employee in as an assistant manager. There is high demand for bouquets being sent between people in London and it's surrounding areas due to quarantine.
Now I am wondering how a quarantine ball could happen. Maybe a letter masquerade where attendees are paired off for anonymous letters. A great task for any aspiring matchmaker.
Uh oh! I think I missed reading somewhere that this was taking place during a quarantine. Are there anymore details to it beyond that...? Or are we waiting for first newsletter to find out more? :)
Oh, I like all these ideas.
I was thinking of having the Duke host a “literature circle” (aka: book club). this way people can read a book in like, march and then write to others in “the circle“ and kind of have a context or a spring board to talk to each other.
I think i read somewhere that word games/riddles/etc were popular.... perhaps that was a later period, but i think it would work here too.
