Hi, everyone! Thank you in advance to anyone who might be able to help me! My character, Ricardo Castillo, is employed at Magdalen College, Oxford University as a professor (the highest rank of instructor beneath Chancellor, as far as I can tell--if you find any differently please let me know, as I am aiming for the heights, haha). At any rate, usually I am a pretty good researcher, but I cannot find any indication whatsoever as to what Ricardo's yearly income might be. I need to settle on at least a rough estimate so that I can finalize things like his house, possible servants, and attire (*cough*and his gambling budget*cough*). Can anyone point me in the right direction?
P.S. I am open to correspondence with anyone! I could definitely talk about Ricardo at length to anyone who's interested in finding a hook to speak with him about. I'm also open to "cold" introduction letters with no foreplanning. Everyone is welcome! Well...welcome by *me*. Maybe not so much by Ricardo, depending.
I think being a Professor is probably enough to keep a good house near the college, in town. Probably not a large estate unless you have alternative means of income or inheritance. We need to also understand that 1) higher education was previously reserved almost only for the wealthy 2) the preeminent doctors, scientists, mathematicians, etc. of the day could be rewarded with Knighthoods and minor titles, which also conferred some portion of wealth or status.
So I don't think it's ridiculous to have a healthy income to keep a house with servants, a coach. You probably don't need a full time residence in London, since you're at school with an actual job (in the minority, among RJ players, who are people of leisure or military or clergy by and large).
Your income would be salary (I also can't get a real quote, but again -- income from publishing, research, awards, endowments, etc. on top of it). Plus 4% interest on whatever you have banked. So if you had a passive income of 800 pounds a year on top of the salary, you would have inherited a nice nut of 20,000 pounds, which is sitting in a bank somewhere.
What are Ricardo's areas of expertise?
How does Ricardo feel about the Basque peoples, and their woes in this time of attack by the French?
If you don't have the Wealth trait, it's a ballpark of 1500-2000 pounds a year. If you do have the Wealth trait, it's around 10,000.
