So there are loads and loads of great houses dotting the English Countryside. But it might be awkward if we all lived in the same one. By accident!
it might also be fun to know *where* in England people are planning on basing themselves :)
Edit:: There are also plenty of London homes that people are claiming, so I've denoted that as well.
Country Estate:
Castle Richmond (formerly Castle Howard),
Bath, Somerset
London Residence
Richmond House (formerly Clarendon House)
Piccadilly, London
Scottish Holiday Home
Dunrobin Castle
Sutherland, Scotland
When Adira isn't on deployment she is at her family's esate, Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire.
Eloise stays at her family's home in the country, though it's just her and her Father now, as her brothers have moved on and out to various occupations and places.
Prior Park, in Bath. Known for it's stunning views and the Palladian Bridge.
In London, a newly acquired townhouse of her own, Eloise was looking forward to redecorating. Maybe next season...
The Homes of Lady Kaeitha Elise Vale

Original Vale Family Estate, this is the main place of business for the Earl of Inverness- due to placement within the Capital: Edinburgh.

Lady Vale's preferred residency located in Northern England, for its vast greenery and noteworthy gardens.
Scottish Country House
Bunchrew House

Apparently the actual home of the people whose last name and title I'm borrowing lived in was Upper Gatton Park, in Surrey. So I guess I'm claiming it, since nobody else has, and I spent way too much time tracking down this fact. (Also it might be for sale IRL, funny enough.) https://media.onthemarket.com/properties/2872061/doc_0_6.pdf That's the family house though. He would also have a London pied-à-terre but I haven't worked out what would be the right neighborhood.
Lady Catherine Stuart holds Ballencrieff Castle, East Lothian, Scotland
It would be lovely if someone invited her to stay in London *hint hint* or knew of a vacant townhome near theirs. :)
I put it in the Airtable in a different thread without realizing Corsham Court had been taken. So the Hughes family ancestral will be Littlecote House instead.
There is also a London residence which is where Charlotte currently lives.
For Mr. Hughes, ever the frugal sort, he keeps a smaller manor in his county seat of Wiltshire, Iford Manor. But he also has a townhouse in London for the season and for when parliament in in session.
This is Octavia's country home, Boston Manor, on 20 acres with an additional 60 acres leased near the town of Hounslow. We have extensive vegetable gardens and lovely trails through the wood. She seldom invites guests which has caused a good deal of speculation in some quarters.
With a bit of help from the Spanish Embassy Tavvi acquired this home on the corner of Spanish Street, at Number 21, Manchester Square. She frequently gives small dinner parties and amusing salons. Invitations are much envied.
The only property Sophrona outright owns, thanks to her husband's will, is Whitewater Hall (modeled after Hellens Manor) in Herefordshire. This is where she's spent her year of mourning.
In London, she stays at the Hazelton residence on Pall Mall. Her family also owns two country houses in Somerset, where she (and her siblings, including @Primrose Hazelton) grew up: Athelhampton House
and Tyntesfield
If people are looking for ideas, I found this incredibly detailed and well-researched blog about landed families and their homes: https://landedfamilies.blogspot.com/
Honora Basset's family home is Tihedy Park in Cornwall. Her father is Francis Basset, Baron De Dunstanville and Baron Basset of Stratton.
Since Castle Howard is already spoken for, I'll consider the main estate to be Naworth Castle in Cumbria. Probably just some generic London house that I'll find an image for later. But Naworth is really the only one in particular that I'm concerned about really claiming, because I'm being vaguely historical, ya know, like a huge goddamn nerd.
Update -- Adding Eilean Donan Castle to the Howard list too, although unlike with Naworth Castle, I'm only mostly drawing inspiration from the castle's real history, as opposed to keeping it pretty much accurate like for the other. In this history, the castle is currently disused and in severe need up repairs & updating, but otherwise generally intact.
As this is a game of Alternative Histories, I shall claim my country house as Sudeley Castle (in Gloucester). And myself as Countess of Gloucester. This property in reality was partially in ruins after changing hands often during the English Civil War, though always occupied by local gentry. It was fully renovated again by 1840, but in this game it shall have been renovated soon after the English Civil War and returned to it's full glory much sooner in history- sometime in the 1700's. COUNTRY HOUSE (Gloucester): Sudeley Castle A castle estate, lording over the Cotswalds and vast swaths of local farmland. It has a notable courtyard, chapel, and was the burial place of Queen Catherine Parr, final wife and widow of King Henry the 8th.
In reality, Gloucester House was occupied in 1811 by the controversial and historical artifact obsessed Earl of Elgin, and some years later Prince William Frederick, Duke of Gloucester.
TOWN HOUSE (London): Gloucester House: Filled with treasures gathered by the Earls and Countesses of Gloucester on their many travels, Gloucester House serves as a home that houses as many ancient statues as it does servants.
The Griffen family country estate is Cranborne Manor, Cranborne, Dorset - southwest of London, not far from Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.
In London, the Griffen family townhouse where Abraham resides most of the year is in Kensington, west across Hyde Park from Berkeley Square. (it's larger than it looks....)
By the by, I see Father has gotten himself declared the Marquess of Salisbury. He is moving the family to a more appropriate dwelling for his station. Hatfield House, Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Cranborne Manor will be under the care of whomever he names heir. I do believe I should be caretaker until said time. Well, after season.
I've been looking through great houses for hours because I love, love old architecture. I feel a Pinterest board coming on, man. But for the exteriors of the FitzHugh family seat, I'm rather in love with Knebworth House in Hertfordshire.
I haven't landed on a London home yet but the FitzHugh's certainly do keep a home in town. I'll update when I pick it out.
Idk if this works or not (so many pre-established homes in England! I haven't done that research!) But I personally imagined the Ballards having an estate akin to the Stewart-style manor house once belonging to the Crane family on Castle Hill (in Ipswich, MA). I'm intimately familiar with the home (I was a historical interpreter there), much of it is architectural salvage from old English manor homes that got demolished post-WWI, and it also served as a filming location for some of the the France scenes in 2019's Little Women.
Here are the houses I have for the Bethridge family. Main Home; Ickworth Manor, Located in East Suffolk
London Home, located on the Thames
Holiday Home; Located in Liverpool
Lady Violet grew up in her grandmother's house in town, which is owned by her grandmother outright, although I haven't yet picked a specific house to base it upon. She spends her summers and holidays at her brother's country seat, Croome Court, located in Croome D'Abitot, near Upton-upon-Severn in south Worcestershire, England. (Her brother is the current Earl of Coventry.)
The Home to the St. Clair family- The Duchess of Devonshire
Main residence: Blenheim Palace located in Devon
With the famous Gardens
Saltram House: Located near London
Cholmondeley Castle located in Leeds for Holidays
With the Temple Gardens:
Lady DeLaine has spent most of her life in their country seat of
Stratfield Saye House, enjoying the privacy of her apartment to avoid needless interaction with the rest of her present family, but especially her half-brother, the next Duke of Wellington.
After some noodling over it, I've decided that Eleanor's family will be in residence at Hughenden Manor in Hughenden, Buckinghamshire. Her family also has a home in London and then Eleanor also visits her cousins in Bath!
