This is like the 5th time I've tried to type out this damn post but my webpage keeps doing weird shit. Anyways, here's the summary:
Thought it would be cool to set up a visual family tree to help keep track of different noble families, titles, ages/birth dates/death dates, relationships, etc, because sometimes it helps to just see it all laid out visually. I'm using Family Echo, since it's the best free collaborative family tree maker I've found to date and offers an appropriate range of information inputs. You do not have to be nobility/gentry to utilize the family tree, although the main purpose is to keep track of relationships between different families, as well as titles.
How to use:
-- Upon inspection, it does appear you have to make an account in order to actually add to the family tree. Fortunately, this is super basic & easy.
-- If your family is not connected to any of the other families already present on the family tree, connect it to the "Baseline" box. Try to keep the generations roughly even visually (so like, don't connect your 20-year-old character directly to the baseline box -- if you don't have/know parents or grandparents, just put in "filler" boxes to connect to the baseline, etc).
-- Please set all NPCs' gender to "other," which turns their box white. Sorry that that constrains PCs to male/female, I couldn't think of a better way to do it (other than perhaps setting all PCs to one gender and all NPCs to a different gender).
-- Use "profession" for your current highest noble title (or just your profession, if you're not a noble). Feel free to fill in any of the other boxes you like (such as bio, interests, address, etc. as well as birth and death dates to the day or to the year as you desire). Obviously just don't fill in anything you don't want to be publicly visible!
-- You can also add a portrait. Has to be uploaded directly from your computer/device (I honestly don't know hell well FE works on mobile).
-- Feel free to add stand-in or "connections wanted" boxes if you, for example, know for a fact that your character has a younger sibling but the sibling isn't named/claimed/etc yet. However, try not to scramble the family tree with too many filler/stand-in boxes.

Erected from an accurate timeline of historical figures, excluding the existence of the fictional characters (inclusive of Kaeitha and her parents). The information is true & historically accurate; however, the following that has been altered for fictional/creative liberty.
- John Hay of Cromlix never married nor produced heirs.
- Louise Marie d'Orléans died in infancy.
Thus, in the fictional timeline and world of Romancing Jan, John Hay and Louise Marie lived to marry and produced heirs- resulting in the birth of Kaeitha's parents (and subsequently Kaeitha).

Mother's Bloodline
• Margarite Vale (Mother) (formerly Margarite Marie d'Valois-Orléans)
➖ Lady Vale, Countess of Inverness
Daughter of the French Marchioness, and to one of the few descendants of the Valois line, Margarite's mother chose to anglicize her surname in light of growing tensions with France; selecting Vale in honor of the dying House of Valois.
• Louise Marie d'Valois-Orléans (Grandmother)
➖Fille de France (Madmoiselle)
➖Princess du sang, Marchioness of Orléans
Louise was born in Palais Royal, Paris as a princess du sang- a princess of the blood by direct relation to the House of Valois. Their reign had since passed to the Valois-Orléans branch, also related to the House of Bourbon.
She retired to the country of Northern England in her early twenties, leaving her brother Louis Philippe d'Orléans to manage their father's Dukedom. Louise eventually gained citizenship to England via her marriage to an English Earl.

Thank you for doing this. Here's mine. The information about Charles Edward Stuart and his son/Catherine's father are accurate, but in real life, the son died as an infant. In this version, the son lived and produced a child (Catherine).

Title or Profession: Lady
NPC Kin: [Pretence Prince] Charles Edward Louis John Casimir Sylvester Severino Maria Stuart ("Bonnie Prince Charlie"), b 31 Dec 1720, d 30 Jan 1788 - Paternal Grandfather - Image: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Edward_Stuart#/media/File:Charles_Edward_Stuart_(1775).jpg

Marchioness Mairi McCuis Kerr of Lothian, Scotland, b 1768 - still living
Other PC Relatives: n/a
Birth Dates: 14 Feb, 1785
Portrait: (optional)
Additional Information: While many have disputed Lady Stuart's ancestry, this record is in fact true. The Jacobite cause having failed, Lady Catherine's popularity is partially due to her lovely singing voice, romanticized stories of her grandfather, and the notion that she has ties in Scotland, England, and France. These qualities can earn her an invitation--but she will need to work to provide some enduring endearment and marital value to keep her place of entertainment and influence.
giving this a little bump since we've got a lot of new people who probably haven't seen this, just in case any of them would like to be added.

Hello! I took the liberty of updating some parts of this tree to accommodate know relations to my own Countess Theo and the families of others. Sincere apologies for the need to make Placeholders to accommodate a second cousin, but in exchange, I have added many canonical families and filled in some information gaps. I tried my best to make it neat and tidy as possible.

If you would be interested in appearing on the tree but don't have the time/energy/spoons to do it yourself or just can't be bothered, you can fill in this information for yourself and any notable members of your family (please don't go back more than 2 or 3 generations, though) and I'm happy to do it when I have the time:
Name(s): (including unmarried names, if you would like those included)
Title or Profession: (your noble title if you have one, or just your profession if no formal title. While their most prominent current title is the one that will be most openly displayed, additional titles can also be included)

Other PC Relatives: (any other player characters you're closely connected to -- I will only include those PCs if they say that they want to be included, but this will let me know if I can connect your family tree to theirs if they're already present, or vice versa)
Birth Dates: (doesn't necessarily have to the exact date, the year is fine. However, it might be cool to have exact birth dates for PCs, to be able to send them birthday regards)
